TL;DR — Generation 1 in 20 seconds

  • Best hero: Jeronimo — the strongest Gen 1 hero by a wide margin: 260.2% base stats, Rally Attack +15% gear and an always-on talent. A spender / rally-leader pick.
  • Best F2P pick: Molly — free from the 7-day login rewards, and the first hero a free player should max.
  • Skip / deprioritise: Natalia, for F2P — a good hero locked behind the first-purchase / VIP route. Do not spend generic shards chasing her.

Generation 1 heroes are where every Whiteout Survival account begins: four heroes who between them cover your first rallies, your first garrison and your entire early economy. Because Gen 1 base stats (200.16% — Jeronimo is the exception at 260.2%) are the lowest of any generation, the real Gen 1 questions are about mechanics, not numbers: who is the best Generation 1 hero, who is free, who buffs your whole account, and whose shards are worth chasing at all.

How Generation 1 compares

Power growth across generations — base expedition stats grow by roughly a fifth to a third with every generation, and exclusive gear grows with them.

Reading it: a freshly unlocked later-generation hero usually out-stats a maxed earlier one. What survives the jump is mechanics — debuffs, marks, economy skills and team buffs — which is what the tier list below ranks for.

Hero by hero

Jeronimo — Whiteout Survival Generation 1 Infantry hero

Jeronimo — Infantry

Expedition:
260.2% Atk / 260.2% Def
Gear:
62.5% Lethality / 62.5% Health
Gear skill:
Rally Attack +15%
Source:
VIP packs

The headline act of Generation 1. His base expedition stats (260.2%) sit a full tier above the rest of the generation, his exclusive gear carries Rally Attack +15%, and his exclusive talent buffs every troop you own even when he never leaves the city. If you lead rallies, Jeronimo is the Gen 1 hero your account is built around.

Exclusive talent: Whether or not Jeronimo is deployed, all of your troops gain +15% Lethality and +15% Health.

Expedition skills (exact text)

  • All troops gain +25% Lethality.
  • All troops gain +25% Attack.
  • Attacks have a 20% chance to Stun the enemy for 1 round.

Exclusive gear verdict: Worth maxing — for rally leaders. Rally Attack +15% plus the generation’s best gear stats (62.5% Lethality and Health) make this the only Gen 1 gear that stays relevant deep into later generations. Garrison-only players can stop at a mid level.

Natalia — Whiteout Survival Generation 1 Infantry hero

Natalia — Infantry

Expedition:
200.16% Atk / 200.16% Def
Gear:
55.5% Lethality / 55.5% Health
Gear skill:
Rally Lethality +15%
Source:
First purchase / VIP route

The second Gen 1 infantry and a genuine rally piece: Rally Lethality +15% on her exclusive gear and an always-on talent that buffs your whole army. Her kit is simple — Stun, Attack, Lethality — but everything in it is useful from day one.

Exclusive talent: Whether or not Natalia is deployed, all of your troops gain +10% Attack and +10% Defense.

Expedition skills (exact text)

  • Attacks have a 20% chance to Stun the enemy for 1 round.
  • All troops gain +25% Attack.
  • All troops gain +25% Lethality.

Exclusive gear verdict: Worth it only if you already own her. The gear is good (55.5% Lethality/Health, Rally Lethality +15%), but it sits behind the first-purchase / VIP route — never buy in just for Natalia’s gear.

Molly — Whiteout Survival Generation 1 Lancer hero

Molly — Lancer

Expedition:
200.16% Atk / 200.16% Def
Gear:
50% Lethality / 50% Health
Gear skill:
Garrison Lethality +15%
Source:
Free — 7-day login rewards

The best free hero of Generation 1 and the first hero most accounts max. Molly arrives from the 7-day login rewards, and her kit — a Stun, a coin-flip damage proc and army-wide Lethality — carries early Bear Hunt marches, arena fights and open-field battles alike.

Expedition skills (exact text)

  • Attacks have a 20% chance to Stun the enemy for 1 round.
  • Attacks have a 50% chance to deal 50% increased damage.
  • All troops gain +25% Lethality.

Exclusive gear verdict: Worth maxing for F2P. The gear skill (Garrison Lethality +15%) is situational, but the 50% Lethality and Health on the gear itself boost the hero free players field the longest.

Zinman — Whiteout Survival Generation 1 Marksman hero

Zinman — Marksman

Expedition:
200.16% Atk / 200.16% Def
Gear:
50% Lethality / 50% Health
Gear skill:
Garrison Attack +15%
Source:
Early-game hero, every account

An economy hero first and a fighter second. Zinman cuts the basic resources your buildings consume by 15% and speeds building upgrades by 15% — a permanent discount that compounds for the entire life of your account. Every account raises Zinman, whatever its spending level.

Expedition skills (exact text)

  • All troops gain +10% Defense and +10% Health.
  • Reduces the basic resources (Meat, Wood, Coal and Iron) consumed by buildings by 15%, and increases building upgrade speed by 15%.
  • All troops gain +25% Lethality.

Exclusive gear verdict: Lowest combat priority of the generation. His value is the economy skill, which works without gear — raise Zinman’s gear last, after your combat heroes.

Generation 1 tier list & investment priority

  1. 1

Jeronimo — Best stats in the generation (260.2%), Rally Attack +15% gear and an always-on army-wide talent — the Gen 1 ceiling.

  2. 2

Molly — Free, maxes early, and her damage proc plus army-wide Lethality carry every early game mode.

  3. 3

Zinman — Not a fighter, but a permanent 15% resource discount and 15% faster builds make him mandatory for every account.

  4. 4

Natalia — A good hero on a bad route: a strong kit locked behind first purchase / VIP, so most accounts never max her.

F2P priority order

Molly first (free and immediately useful), then Zinman for the economy skills. Natalia only if you already own her from a purchase. Jeronimo: skip — his shards sit in VIP packs.

Should you save your generic shards? Later generations outscale Generation 1 fast (Gen 2 starts at 240.19% vs Gen 1’s 200.16%), so do not pour generic shards into Gen 1 combat heroes beyond Molly. Zinman is the exception to every scaling argument: his economy skill is never replaced by a later hero. For the full shard-spending framework, see the hero investment guide.

Best Generation 1 lineups

One trio per job, built from this generation’s own heroes. Counter check before you lock any trio: Infantry counters Lancers, Lancers counter Marksmen, Marksmen counter Infantry — if the enemy front line counters yours, swap the trio’s order, not its members.

Solo Attack

Jeronimo · Molly · Zinman

The full Gen 1 trio — the source chart runs this same trio in every combat mode.

Rally Attack

Jeronimo · Molly · Zinman

Jeronimo leads the rally: his gear’s Rally Attack +15% is the generation’s rally buff. If you own Natalia, her Rally Lethality +15% makes her the swap-in.

Rally Defense

Jeronimo · Molly · Zinman

Gen 1 has no dedicated garrison trio — the same three hold the wall, with Molly’s (Garrison Lethality +15%) and Zinman’s (Garrison Attack +15%) gear skills doing the defensive work.

Bear Hunt

Jeronimo · Molly · Zinman

Molly’s 50% increased-damage proc and +25% army-wide Lethality do the heavy lifting; Zinman fills the marksman slot until Alonso arrives in Generation 2.

When do Generation 1 heroes unlock?

Generation 1 heroes are the starting generation — on official servers they are available from the very beginning of a state’s life, with Molly arriving free through the 7-day login rewards and Jeronimo and Natalia tied to the VIP / first-purchase routes.

On PAWNS the wait is removed: all Gen 1–8 heroes are available from Day 1, every account starts with free VIP 8, and the Gen 1–3 heroes are included in the login rewards — so the investment advice in this guide is something you can act on in your first week, not next season.

Generation 1 FAQ

Who is the best Generation 1 hero in Whiteout Survival?

▾

Jeronimo is the strongest Generation 1 hero — 260.2% base expedition stats, Rally Attack +15% exclusive gear and an always-on talent. For free players, Molly is the best Gen 1 hero in practice: she is free from the 7-day login and maxes months earlier.

Is Jeronimo worth investing in?

▾

Yes — if you buy VIP packs or lead rallies. His gear and talent stay useful long after Gen 1. Free players cannot earn his shards reliably, so for F2P the answer is no: max Molly instead.

Generation 1 vs Generation 2 — should I wait or invest now?

▾

Invest now, but selectively. Max Molly and raise Zinman immediately — their value is mechanical (free damage, permanent economy discounts) and does not expire. Save the rest of your generic shards for Generation 2, whose heroes start at 240.19% base stats against Gen 1’s 200.16%.

Which Generation 1 hero should F2P players max first?

▾

Molly. She is free from the 7-day login rewards, her shards are the easiest in the generation to finish, and her Stun, damage proc and +25% Lethality help in every early mode including Bear Hunt.

What is the best Generation 1 lineup for Bear Hunt?

▾

Jeronimo, Molly and Zinman — the Gen 1 trio the source charts run for every combat mode. Molly is the damage engine; Jeronimo’s army-wide Lethality buff lifts the whole march.

When do Generation 1 heroes unlock?

▾

Immediately — Generation 1 is the starting generation on official servers. On PAWNS they are likewise available from Day 1, and Molly is part of the login rewards.
